Unlike traditional molecular targets such as receptors or enzymes, the NVM is targeted by clinicians using local anesthetics like ropivacaine or bupivacaine to inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels along the nerve fibers, thereby blocking pain signal transmission. Therapeutic strategies involving this nerve aim to provide potent analgesia while preserving the motor function of other quadriceps muscles to enable early patient mobilization and recovery.
