Nescient helix-loop-helix protein 1 (NHLH1) is a DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) protein family, encoded by the NHLH1 gene in humans[1][4]. It plays a key role in the determination of cell fate, particularly within the developing nervous system, acting as a regulator of neural differentiation[2][4][5]. NHLH1 is expressed in differentiating cells, especially olfactory and vomeronasal sensory neurons[5]. Its expression is upregulated by transcription factors such as ATF5 and Lhx2[5].
