Netrin receptor UNC5A is a transmembrane receptor of the immunoglobulin superfamily that binds netrin-1 and mediates repulsive axon guidance signals during neural development[2][3][4][5]. UNC5A serves crucial roles in directing neural growth cone migration and in promoting neurite outgrowth in response to netrin-1, often working together with other netrin receptors such as DCC. Uniquely, UNC5A functions as a "dependence receptor," inducing apoptosis in the absence of netrin-1 ligand, which is thought to contribute to its role as a candidate tumor suppressor[3][5].
