NeuGc-containing Gangliosides (NeuGc-gangliosides)

Target
NeuGc-gangliosides
Molecular classification
Glycosphingolipid, Ganglioside, Tumor-associated antigen
01

Overview

NeuGc-containing gangliosides are a class of glycosphingolipids characterized by the presence of N-glycolylneuraminic acid (NeuGc) as their terminal sialic acid. These molecules are structurally similar to the more common N-acetylneuraminic acid (NeuAc)-containing gangliosides but differ by a single oxygen atom. In humans, NeuGc is not synthesized endogenously but can be incorporated into tissues from dietary sources, and are found selectively on tumor cells, making them tumor-associated antigens and targets for immunotherapy.
