Neuraminidase (NA) is a surface glycoprotein of the influenza A H3N2 virus that plays a crucial role in viral release and spread by cleaving sialic acid residues from host cells. It is a homotetramer with a globular head containing a conserved catalytic site. NA is a major target for antiviral drugs like oseltamivir and zanamivir.
Neuraminidase inhibitors block the enzyme's active site, preventing the release of new virions from infected cells.
