Neuraminidase protein of Influenza A virus subtype N1 (NA)

Target
NA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Neuraminidase (NA) is a surface glycoprotein enzyme found on the influenza A virus, including subtype N1. It plays a critical role in the viral life cycle by cleaving sialic acid residues from glycoproteins and glycolipids on host cell surfaces, facilitating the release of newly formed viral particles and their spread to infect additional cells. NA exists as a homotetramer with a catalytic head domain containing key residues involved in sialic acid binding and cleavage. Inhibition of NA is a therapeutic strategy for treating influenza infections.
