Overview

Neuregulin‑1 (NRG1) is a trophic factor that plays essential roles in the development and function of multiple organ systems, most notably the nervous system and heart. NRG1 is part of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family and acts primarily by binding to members of the ERBB family of receptor tyrosine kinases. It produces at least six major types (I–VI) and over 30 isoforms through alternative splicing, resulting in significant structural diversity. Its interaction with ErbB receptors underlies much of its biological activity across systems ranging from neurodevelopment to cardiac physiology.
