Neurexophilin-3 is a secreted protein encoded by the NXPH3 gene. It is thought to act as a ligand for alpha-neurexins, resembling neuropeptides, and is involved in signaling receptor binding and neuropeptide signaling pathways. Predominantly located in the extracellular region, it might play a role in synaptic organization and signaling in the nervous system. Genetic alterations in NXPH3 have been associated with neurological diseases, including autism spectrum disorder and lissencephaly. However, Neurexophilin-3 is not currently classified as a conventional drug target, such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
