Overview
Neurexophilin and PC-esterase domain family member 3 (NXPE3) is a protein-coding gene encoding a neuropeptide-like glycoprotein in the neurexophilin family. The protein contains a variable N-terminal domain, a highly conserved central neurexophilin and PC-esterase (NXPE) domain, a short linker region, and a cysteine-rich C-terminal domain. NXPE3 binds alpha neurexins, which are presynaptic transmembrane receptors involved in promoting adhesion between dendrites and axons. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, but the precise biological functions and disease associations of the protein are yet to be experimentally confirmed[1][2][3][5][6].
