Overview

NEURL1 antisense RNA 1 (NEURL1-AS1) is a natural antisense long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on the opposite DNA strand relative to the protein-coding gene NEURL1. Natural antisense lncRNAs such as NEURL1-AS1 are increasingly recognized as important regulators of gene expression, with roles in controlling splicing, transcription factor recruitment, and mRNA stability. Many antisense lncRNAs are dysregulated in various cancer types, and emerging evidence suggests they may contribute to carcinogenesis through modulation of gene expression and epigenetic status. However, NEURL1-AS1 itself remains uncharacterized in terms of specific biological functions, disease associations, and therapeutic targeting. It is not currently recognized as a drug or therapeutic target, nor have drug interactions, biomarker roles, or safety concerns been documented in the biomedical literature reviewed here[4]. Note: Information on NEURL1-AS1 is limited; most of the data available pertains to the NEURL1 protein-coding gene, which is a ubiquitin ligase with known roles in neuronal development and tumor suppression, but this is a distinct entity from the antisense lncRNA requested[1][3][5].
