Overview

A tumor cell with neuroendocrine features is a neoplastic cell displaying characteristics of both the endocrine and nervous systems. These cells are defined by their ability to produce peptide hormones or bioamines and express neuroendocrine markers like chromogranin A, synaptophysin and INSM1. They are classified based on differentiation and grade (well-differentiated NETs vs. poorly differentiated NECs), influencing prognosis and treatment strategies. The presence of neuroendocrine features can also arise through transdifferentiation, a process associated with therapy resistance.
