NF1P12 is a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional segment of DNA with sequence similarity to the functional neurofibromin 1 (NF1) gene. Pseudogenes like NF1P12 do not encode functional proteins and are typically products of gene duplication or retrotransposition events; they can be found scattered on various chromosomes and may carry homologous regions from their parent gene but lack the ability to produce the corresponding protein. The functional NF1 gene encodes neurofibromin, a tumor suppressor with GTPase-activating activity, but pseudogenes such as NF1P12 do not contribute directly to protein function or serve as established therapeutic targets. There is no evidence that NF1P12 has a biological function, disease association, or is targeted by any drug.
