Overview
The neuroinflammatory pathway refers to a complex network of cellular and molecular events that mediate inflammation within the central nervous system (CNS). This process is primarily orchestrated by CNS-resident immune cells—mainly microglia and astrocytes—as well as infiltrating peripheral immune cells, in response to injury, infection, or disease. Neuroinflammation can be both protective (acute phase) and detrimental (chronic phase), depending on its duration and regulation.
