Target intelligence / Profile preview
Neuroligin-4, X-linked (NLGN4X), is a neuronal cell-surface adhesion protein that belongs to the neuroligin family and is involved in synapse formation and remodeling in the central nervous system[1][2][5][7]. It acts as a post-synaptic cell adhesion molecule, interacting with presynaptic neurexins to promote synaptic maturation and specificity[1][3][4][5]. NLGN4X is primarily expressed in the human cerebral cortex. Mutations or deletions in NLGN4X are associated with X-linked forms of autism, Asperger syndrome, fragile X syndrome, intellectual disability, and a broader spectrum of neuropsychiatric disorders, including Tourette syndrome and ADHD[1][2][3]. There are currently no known drugs that target NLGN4X directly, and it has no established use as a therapeutic target, though its important roles in brain development and disease make it a strong candidate for future neuropsychiatric research and intervention[3][7].
Not established for any therapeutic drugs; no known targeted mechanism in approved therapies
