Neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-2 (nAChRα2)

Target
nAChRα2
Molecular classification
Ligand-gated ion channel, Receptor, Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit
01

Overview

The neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-2 (nAChRα2) is a protein encoded by the CHRNA2 gene. It is a subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), which are ligand-gated ion channels involved in synaptic transmission and various neurological processes, including learning, memory, and addiction. The α2 subunit typically combines with β subunits to form functional heteropentamers, such as α2β4 or α2β2. Drugs targeting these channels are being investigated for several diseases.
