Neuronal Delayed Rectifier Potassium Channel (I_DR)

Target
I_DR
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated potassium channel, Kv channel, Delayed rectifier potassium channel
01

Overview

The neuronal delayed rectifier potassium channel is a type of voltage-gated potassium (K+) channel primarily composed of Kv2.x subunits, particularly Kv2.1. It plays a critical role in the repolarization phase of the action potential in neurons. These channels are responsible for carrying outward K+ currents at depolarized membrane potentials, thereby restoring the resting membrane potential after an action potential and regulating neuronal excitability. Dysfunction of these channels can lead to neuronal hyperexcitability and seizures.
