Neuronal norepinephrine transporter (NET)

Target
NET
Molecular classification
Transporter, Solute Carrier Family 6
01

Overview

The neuronal norepinephrine transporter (NET), encoded by the SLC6A2 gene, is a transmembrane protein responsible for the reuptake of norepinephrine from the synaptic cleft back into presynaptic neurons. This process terminates noradrenergic signaling and plays a critical role in regulating mood, arousal, cognition, and autonomic function. NET is a therapeutic target for several classes of drugs, including antidepressants and psychostimulants, and dysregulation of NET has been implicated in various neuropsychiatric and cardiovascular disorders.
