Overview

Neuronal regeneration-related protein (NREP, also known as P311) is a small, intrinsically disordered RNA-binding protein predicted to regulate axon regeneration, neuronal differentiation, and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling. Highly expressed in developing tissues and after injury, it influences cellular migration, fibrogenic response, myofibroblast transformation, and TGF-β isoform translation in multiple organs. NREP interacts with translation machinery and cytoskeletal components to modulate key regenerative and remodeling events in the nervous system and peripheral tissues. Aberrant expression has been linked to pathological fibrosis, cancer progression, and impaired tissue repair.
