Overview

Neuropeptide Y receptor subtype 6 (Y6) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that belongs to the neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptor family. While it is a pseudogene in humans, it is functional in some other mammals like mouse and rabbit. In these species, it plays a role in bone metabolism. It shares approximately 60% sequence identity with the neuropeptide Y1 receptor and binds endogenous peptides such as neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide YY (PYY), and pancreatic polypeptide. In mice, Y6R signaling is required for maintenance of bone mass.
