Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) is a multifunctional transmembrane glycoprotein receptor/coreceptor encoded by the *NRP1* gene, widely expressed across neuronal/vascular/immune tissues. It mediates crucial developmental processes—including axon guidance/neurogenesis/cardiovascular morphogenesis—and plays central roles in adult pathologies such as cancer progression/metastasis/immunosuppression via interactions mainly involving class III semaphorins & VEGF family ligands/receptors. Its structural features enable highly selective ligand recognition making it an attractive target for anti-cancer therapies—and potentially antiviral interventions—currently under active investigation.
