Neurotrophic factor receptors

Molecular classification
Receptor, Receptor tyrosine kinase, Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily
01

Overview

"Neurotrophic factor receptors" refer collectively to cell-surface proteins that mediate the effects of neurotrophic factors, including the Trk family of receptor tyrosine kinases (TrkA/NTRK1, TrkB/NTRK2, TrkC/NTRK3) and the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR, NGFR), as well as receptors for other neurotrophic factors such as GDNF family ligands (RET, GFRα1-4). These receptors regulate key processes in neural development, survival, maintenance, differentiation, and plasticity, and are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, nerve injury, and some cancers. Due to the diversity of individual receptors in this group, precise functional, pathologic, and pharmacologic information depends on the specific receptor subtype involved.
