Overview

Neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinases (NTRKs) are a family of genes encoding transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinases, which play essential roles in the development, function, and survival of neurons. The NTRK gene family consists of three members: NTRK1, NTRK2, and NTRK3. These genes encode the proteins TRKA, TRKB, and TRKC respectively. NTRK fusions can drive tumorigenesis by promoting uncontrolled cellular proliferation/survival via persistent activation of MAP kinase pathways. Selective inhibitors targeting these kinases represent important advances in precision oncology.
