NTRK2 is a membrane-bound receptor tyrosine kinase that acts as a high-affinity catalytic receptor for neurotrophins such as BDNF, NT-4, and NT-3. Upon ligand binding, it activates downstream signaling pathways like Ras-MAPK, PI3K-Akt, and PLCγ, regulating neuronal differentiation, cell survival, axon/dendrite growth, and synaptic plasticity. Dysregulation of NTRK2 is associated with obesity, mood disorders, and potential roles in cancer.
