Overview

Neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 (NCF1), also known as p47-phox, is a crucial cytosolic subunit of the NADPH oxidase (NOX) enzyme complex. NOX is essential for generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) in phagocytes, which are used to kill engulfed pathogens. NCF1 is activated by phosphorylation, leading to its translocation to the membrane and assembly with other NOX components to produce superoxide. NCF1 dysfunction is strongly associated with chronic granulomatous disease and increased risk for autoimmune disorders.
