Neutrophil Reactive Oxygen Species Release (Neutrophil ROS Release)

Target
Neutrophil ROS Release
Molecular classification
Enzyme complex, Redox process
01

Overview

Neutrophil reactive oxygen species (ROS) release refers to the process by which neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, generate and secrete chemically reactive molecules derived from oxygen. This process is central to the innate immune response, enabling neutrophils to kill invading pathogens and regulate inflammation. Key components include NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2), myeloperoxidase, and superoxide dismutase. While essential for host defense, excessive or misdirected ROS release can contribute to tissue injury and inflammatory diseases.
