NFIB antisense RNA 1 (NFIB-AS1, also known as AL136366.1) is a long non-coding RNA that is transcribed from the antisense strand of the NFIB locus. It functions as a regulatory RNA that can modulate the expression of the nuclear factor I B (NFIB) gene, a transcription factor involved in cell differentiation and tumor metastasis. Mechanistically, NFIB-AS1 acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) or microRNA sponge, sequestering miR-377-3p and thereby upregulating NFIB expression. High expression of NFIB-AS1 has been correlated with poor clinical outcomes and oncogenic phenotypes in liver cancer, including increased cell proliferation, migration, glucose metabolism, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)[2]. NFIB-AS1 is being studied for its role in cancer biology, although it is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target.
Not applicable for drugs, as no current therapies directly target NFIB-AS1\n In experimental models, knockdown of NFIB-AS1 can suppress proliferation and EMT of cancer cells by influencing the miR-377-3p/NFIB axis, but such modulatory approaches are preclinical[2].
