NFIX antisense RNA 1 (NFIX-AS1)

Target
NFIX-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

NFIX antisense RNA 1 (NFIX-AS1) is a predicted long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the NFIX gene. Long non-coding antisense RNAs such as NFIX-AS1 are known in general to regulate gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, frequently through base pairing to cognate sense transcripts, modulating mRNA stability, translation, or chromatin state. While many antisense lncRNAs participate in processes such as genomic imprinting, X-chromosome inactivation, and transcriptional interference, and are increasingly implicated in cancer biology and gene regulation, there is currently no curated or experimental evidence for a validated, unique biological activity or disease association for NFIX-AS1 itself. Further study is required to establish the precise molecular function, disease relevance, and therapeutic potential of this specific lncRNA.

02

Mechanism of action

None documented. Mechanisms described for other lncRNA/antisense molecules include acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), miRNA sponge, or modulating chromatin state, but no specific validated mechanism for NFIX-AS1.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (cis or trans)Epigenetic regulation (possible, by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs)Potential involvement in chromatin modification or transcriptional interference (inferred from general roles for antisense lncRNAs)
04

Disease associations

Other (not directly mapped to a specific disease, but antisense lncRNAs as a class have recognized roles in cancer, development, and epigenetic regulation)
