Target intelligence / Profile preview

NGRN pseudogene 3 (NGRNP3)

Target
NGRNP3
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA locus (inferred)
01

Overview

Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have undergone mutations which render them incapable of producing a functional protein product. Although they typically do not encode proteins, some pseudogenes can regulate their parental genes through transcription of non-coding RNAs such as lncRNAs, miRNAs, or siRNAs, impacting gene expression and epigenetic processes. However, only a minority of human pseudogenes (~20%) are transcriptionally active and contribute to the regulation of physiological or pathological functions, most commonly observed in cancer biology. The designation “NGRN pseudogene 3” does not correspond to any specific, therapeutically relevant target or known gene, and cannot be matched in major nomenclature resources, indicating a likely error or lack of recognition in biomedical literature.

02

Biological functions

Gene regulation via non-coding RNA mechanisms (shared property of pseudogenes)Epigenetic regulation (in some cases, pseudogenes transcribe lncRNAs involved in chromatin remodeling or modulation of gene expression)Evolving role in gene duplication and formation of gene families
03

Disease associations

Other (rare pseudogenes are involved in regulating cancer genes, but no evidence links NGRNP3 specifically)
