Overview

NGRN pseudogene 4 (NGRNP4) is mapped to human chromosome 6 and annotated as a pseudogene of the neurogranin (NGRN) gene[3]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are typically transcriptionally silent or produce non-coding RNA, not functional protein. Some pseudogenes, generally, may be transcribed into long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and could influence the expression of their parental genes via microRNA competition or other regulatory mechanisms (the so-called competitive endogenous RNA, or ceRNA, network). However, there is currently no functional or disease-relevant role specifically assigned to NGRN pseudogene 4, and it is not considered a therapeutic target[1][2][3].
