Overview

NHL-repeat-containing protein 4 (NHLRC4) is a human protein encoded by the NHLRC4 gene (NCBI Gene: 283948) and is part of the NHL-repeat protein family[5][1][3]. NHL repeats are protein structural motifs named for Ncl-1, HT2A, and Lin-41 founding members, generally associated with protein-protein or protein-RNA binding[4][2]. NHLRC4 is broadly expressed, but its biological role in humans remains poorly characterized and distinct from more widely studied TRIM-NHL or LIN41-like family members, which are known to regulate mRNA translation or stability through their RNA-binding capacity in gene regulatory networks[2][6]. Unlike some other NHL-repeat proteins (e.g., TRIM71, LIN41), NHLRC4 does not appear to act as a canonical RNA regulator, transcription factor, or receptor, and there is no evidence supporting its role in human disease pathogenesis or as a therapeutic target. Currently, NHLRC4 should be classified as a repeat-domain containing protein with undefined and not fully elucidated biological function in molecular biology and genomics[5][1][3].
