Nicastrin pseudogene 1 (NCSTNP1) is a human pseudogene related by sequence to the nicastrin (NCSTN) gene. NCSTNP1 does not encode a functional protein product and is not a component of any known molecular complex or pathway. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. NCSTNP1 is not considered a therapeutic target. The biologically relevant and druggable protein is nicastrin (NCSTN), an integral component of the gamma-secretase complex that participates in proteolytic processing of amyloid precursor protein and Notch receptors[1][2][6]. Note: If you intended to refer to the functional gene/protein nicastrin (NCSTN), that is a major target in neurodegenerative disease research[1][2][3]; NCSTNP1 is not the relevant entry for therapeutic or functional studies.
