Target intelligence / Profile preview

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor α6β2 Subtype (nAChR α6β2)

Target
nAChR α6β2
Molecular classification
Ligand-gated ion channel, Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) α6β2 subtype is a heteromeric ligand-gated ion channel composed of α6 and β2 subunits. It is predominantly found in dopaminergic neurons within the mesostriatal and nigrostriatal pathways, as well as noradrenergic neurons and visual tracts. It plays essential roles in modulating dopamine release, motor control, reward mechanisms, learning, memory, and addiction-related behaviors.
