Overview

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor α7 subunit (α7 nAChR) is a homopentameric ligand-gated ion channel highly permeable to calcium ions. It plays critical roles in neuronal and non-neuronal tissues, mediating fast synaptic transmission and influencing various cellular processes including inflammation, cell survival, and proliferation. It is implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders, inflammatory diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
