Overview

The muscle-type nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), specifically the adult form with subunit composition α1(2)β1δε, is a ligand-gated ion channel found at neuromuscular junctions. It mediates fast synaptic transmission by responding to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, leading to muscle contraction. Dysfunction or autoimmunity against this receptor leads to diseases such as myasthenia gravis.
