The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor alpha6 beta2 (α6β2 nAChR) is a specific subtype of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors that plays a crucial role in neuronal signaling, particularly in dopaminergic pathways. This receptor is a pentameric protein complex composed of α6 and β2 subunits, functioning as a ligand-gated ion channel. It is primarily expressed in dopamine-releasing neurons in the midbrain and dominates nicotinic receptor function in the nucleus accumbens.
