Overview

NIFK pseudogene 4 (NIFKP4) is annotated in the human genome as a pseudogene, meaning it resembles a gene but lacks the ability to code for a functional protein, usually because of disabling mutations, insertions, or deletions[2]. While annotated and expressed in some transcriptomic studies, pseudogenes like NIFKP4 typically do not have direct biological functions. However, increasing evidence suggests that some pseudogenes can exert regulatory roles at the RNA level, influencing the activity of their protein-coding relatives or modulating processes through noncoding RNA pathways[1]. To date, no evidence has been published that links NIFKP4 specifically to disease, drug targeting, or clinical biomarkers, nor has its RNA been clearly shown to have unique regulatory effects. Its official aliases are maintained in databases for consistency; it is considered a noncoding RNA pseudogene and is not a therapeutic target[2].
