Overview

NIFK pseudogene 6 (NIFKP6) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[3][5]. It is related by sequence to the protein-coding gene NIFK (nucleolar protein interacting with the FHA domain of MKI67), which encodes a protein known to interact with the Ki-67 antigen involved in cell cycle regulation[2][7]. Unlike its protein-coding counterpart, NIFKP6 does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as NIFKP6 are generally considered genomic DNA segments that share high sequence similarity with functional genes but contain mutations or defects that preclude their translation into a functional product[5]. Some pseudogenes have been found to exert biological effects through regulatory RNA mechanisms, but there is currently no published evidence indicating any functional, regulatory, or pathogenic role for NIFKP6 specifically[3][5]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker, and it has no known disease associations.
