Overview

Nitric oxide pathway modulation refers to the regulation of the biological processes and signaling cascades initiated by nitric oxide. The pathway is primarily mediated through its interaction with soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), leading to the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which acts as a second messenger to regulate various physiological functions. Modulation can occur at several points along the pathway, including altering L-arginine availability, increasing NO levels with donors, or inhibiting phosphodiesterase enzymes to prevent cGMP breakdown. These approaches are used therapeutically in conditions such as pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.
