Nitric Oxide Production Pathway (NO Pathway)

01

Overview

The nitric oxide (NO) production pathway refers to the biological processes by which nitric oxide, a gaseous signaling molecule, is synthesized and regulated in living organisms. Key enzymes are nitric oxide synthases (NOS), which catalyze the conversion of L-arginine to L-citrulline with the release of NO. Regulation occurs at multiple levels including enzyme expression, calcium/calmodulin binding, and competition for substrates. Dysregulation contributes to pathologies such as hypertension, septic shock, stroke, and neurodegeneration.
