Overview

Nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3), also known as endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), is an enzyme primarily responsible for generating nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells. NO produced by eNOS plays a crucial role in regulating vascular tone, inhibiting platelet aggregation, controlling cellular proliferation, and modulating leukocyte adhesion—functions essential for cardiovascular health. Deficiency or dysfunction leads to impaired vasodilation and contributes to hypertension.
