Overview

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), encoded by the NOS3 gene, is an enzyme primarily responsible for generating nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells. NO produced by eNOS plays a central role in regulating vascular tone, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and maintaining overall cardiovascular homeostasis. Dysfunction or uncoupling of eNOS contributes significantly to endothelial dysfunction seen in various cardiovascular risk states.
