Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), encoded by the NOS3 gene, is an enzyme primarily responsible for generating nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells. NO produced by eNOS plays a central role in regulating vascular tone, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and maintaining overall cardiovascular homeostasis. Dysfunction or uncoupling of eNOS contributes significantly to endothelial dysfunction seen in various cardiovascular risk states.
eNOS catalyzes the production of nitric oxide (NO) from L-arginine, regulating vascular tone and inhibiting platelet aggregation.
