Overview

iNOS (nitric oxide synthase inducible) is an enzyme responsible for the production of large amounts of nitric oxide (NO), primarily as part of the immune response. It is induced by cytokines and inflammatory stimuli in various cell types, including macrophages, and plays a crucial role in tumoricidal and bactericidal actions. Dysregulation of iNOS activity is associated with several diseases, including osteoarthritis, sepsis, cancer, and chronic kidney disease. It also has nitrosylase activity, mediating cysteine S-nitrosylation.
