Target
NKX1-2
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Homeobox protein

Overview

NK1 homeobox 2 (NKX1-2) is a DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the homeobox protein family. It functions primarily as a transcriptional repressor, regulating gene expression during cell differentiation and early development. NKX1-2 is predicted to act as a Wnt/beta-catenin effector and may control pluripotency and preimplantation development, particularly in the central nervous system. Its expression is mainly nuclear, and it belongs to a family of homeobox genes that includes several paralogs such as NKX1-1. NKX1-2 is not commonly recognized as a druggable or therapeutic target and does not have known drug interactions, mechanisms of action, or established biomarker or safety concern roles. It is a gene regulatory transcription factor essential for developmental processes, especially in the central nervous system, but is not directly linked to particular diseases or relevant to pharmacological interventions in current literature.
