Overview

NKAIN1 pseudogene 2 (NKAIN1P2) is a human pseudogene classified as non-protein coding. It is presumed to be related to the sodium/potassium transporting ATPase interacting family, but pseudogenes like NKAIN1P2 do not produce functional proteins. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, there is currently no evidence that NKAIN1P2 has biological functionality or disease relevance. In therapeutic research and drug discovery, NKAIN1P2 is not considered a target. Pseudogenes, by definition, are noncoding genetic elements derived from functional gene ancestors. Most are not transcribed or translated, though exceptions exist where they exhibit regulatory RNA activity. Related protein-coding family members (such as NKAIN1 and NKAIN2) are associated with interactions with Na,K-ATPase, cancer, and development, but pseudogenes themselves are typically excluded from drug target databases and do not participate directly in disease mechanisms or signaling pathways.

Mechanism of action

None applicable, as there are no drugs or interventions targeting this pseudogene.

03

Biological functions

No established biological functions for NKAIN1P2. While pseudogenes may have regulatory roles (e.g., antisense RNAs, ceRNAs), none have been reported for NKAIN1P2 specifically.
04

Disease associations

No specific disease roles established for NKAIN1P2. Although parent family members (NKAIN1, NKAIN2) are associated with cancer and neurological diseases, NKAIN1P2 is not implicated in any disorder.
