NKD1 antisense RNA 1 (NKD1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene transcribed from the opposite strand of the NKD1 gene locus. Current databases (such as GeneCards and BioGPS) register NKD1-AS1 as an RNA gene, but give no function, disease association, or known protein product. There is no evidence for its role as a therapeutic target or for its direct participation in signaling pathways. Most published research and reviews concern NKD1 (the encoded protein), a negative feedback regulator in Wnt signaling, and not the antisense transcript NKD1-AS1. Most search results and scientific literature focus on NKD1 protein (not the antisense RNA) and its role in Wnt signaling, cancer biology, and cell migration. NKD1-AS1 itself remains uncharacterized as of current knowledge. If a therapeutic target is required, NKD1 itself (protein) may be relevant, but NKD1-AS1 is not considered a standard drug target or biomarker.
