Target intelligence / Profile preview
NLRC4 is a key sensor of intracellular pathogens and a critical component of the NLRC4 inflammasome. Upon detection of specific bacterial or fungal ligands, NLRC4 oligomerizes and recruits caspase-1, leading to the maturation and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. Mutations in NLRC4 are associated with autoinflammatory diseases. NLRC4 plays a role in both innate immunity and cell death.
NLRC4 inflammasome activation leads to caspase-1 activation and subsequent processing/release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
