NLR family pyrin domain containing 8 (NLRP8)

NLR family pyrin domain containing 8 (NLRP8) is a member of the NOD-like receptor (NLR) protein family, characterized by an amino-terminal pyrin domain (PYD), a central NACHT domain (ATPase activity), and a carboxy-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain[2]. The NLR family mediates pattern recognition as part of the innate immune system, sensing pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs)[2]. NLRP proteins, including NLRP8, are expressed in immune cells, where they may potentially contribute to inflammatory signaling[2]. While other NLRPs, such as NLRP3 and NLRP1, are known to form inflammasomes and play roles in inflammation, the specific molecular function and disease relevance of NLRP8 in humans remain uncharacterized and are not supported by current evidence. NLRP8 is not considered a validated therapeutic target, as there is no known implication in any disease, nor is there any documented drug targeting this molecule[2].
