NMD3 ribosome export adaptor pseudogene 2 (NMD3P2) is classified as a pseudogene, which means it shares sequence similarity with the functional NMD3 ribosome export adaptor gene (involved in nuclear export of the 60S ribosomal subunit) but is not believed to produce a functional protein[5]. There are no data suggesting it acts as a therapeutic target, encodes a functional protein, or is directly involved in any known diseases. The functional version, NMD3, is a conserved adaptor critical for ribosome biogenesis and nuclear export in eukaryotic cells, but NMD3P2 does not appear to participate in these processes[2][5].
