Overview

NMNAT1 pseudogene 5 (NMNAT1P5) is a non-functional DNA sequence present in the human genome that shares significant homology with the functional NMNAT1 gene encoding nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferase 1, a key nuclear enzyme involved in NAD biosynthesis. Unlike the active NMNAT1 gene, NMNAT1P5 does not produce a protein or participate in biological pathways, nor is it implicated as a disease mediator, drug target, or biomarker. Pseudogenes for NMNAT1 are distributed on several chromosomes, including chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 14, and 15; NMNAT1P5 designates one of these pseudogenes—not the functional gene. The existence of NMNAT1P5, like other pseudogenes, is primarily a result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events; it has no known role in human physiology or disease. NMNAT1 pseudogene 5 (NMNAT1P5) is a non-coding pseudogene with no known biological, therapeutic, or clinical relevance. It is not considered a valid drug target, receptor, transporter, enzyme, or biomarker.
