NMRAL2P, or NmrA like redox sensor 2 pseudogene, is a non-protein-coding RNA gene derived from the NmrA redox sensor family and functions as a direct transcriptional target of the Nrf2 antioxidant response pathway in human cells. It operates as a functional pseudogene with regulatory activity, serving as a coactivator that enhances Nrf2-induced expression of genes such as NQO1. NMRAL2P is upregulated by chemopreventive agents like sulforaphane in the nucleus and cytoplasm and participates in the maintenance of cancer-related cellular processes, including growth and migration. Unlike classical receptors or enzymes, NMRAL2P does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a direct therapeutic target; however, it may serve as a biomarker or a modulator in diseases with dysregulated redox homeostasis and cancer.
Induction by Nrf2 upon oxidative or chemopreventive stimuli (such as SFN), leading to enhanced expression of antioxidant target genes like NQO1 via NMRAL2P coactivator function.
